In other police matters, the trustees moved Jonathan Smith from probationary full-time officer to regular full-time status, increasing his pay from $20 an hour to $21 per hour. He would like to see the Salem and Perry officers on the DTF work together for the good of the area. He said it’s much needed and will help the city of Salem, too. “I believe the officer I appointed will do his due diligence in the fight against drugs,” Emigh said. Several years ago, the township had an officer assigned to the DTF, but then pulled the officer back to the township. “I’m glad we were able to do it,” he said.Įmigh said he’s glad they’re able to send someone to the DTF because it’s something they’ve wanted to do for a long time. Having a fifth full-time officer also helps, along with a full staff of part-timers to cover the hours and now after watching the funds for six months, the money is available too. “It’s important for us to have someone on the DTF, especially with some of the drug activity in the township,” Bailey said. The county commissioners will pay the township $10,000 towards the officer’s salary, which will be paid by the township.īailey said he’s recommending the township create a line item in the police department revenue specifically for that money and that they use America Rescue Plan Act funds to pay the part-timers and DTF officer, that way the money from the commissioners can be set aside for when there are no ARPA funds anymore to pay for law enforcement. Trustee Chair Steve Bailey explained the DTF officer will work three days a week for the DTF and two for the township.
